For my summer project I thought about a lot of different choices, especially when I have been seeing tons of great ideas from everyone else. But I finally decided that my project will be for me to learn how to play golf and hopefully get good at it. During school this year I didn’t’ partake in any sports, (besides marching band which does not count) and my life was basically just band and my boyfriend, lame. So I defiantly needed something else to do. And when my friend Audrey told me about how great playing golf was I thought to myself “why not?!”
I even watched Happy Gilmore this weekend to get me in a golf mood, haha. You gotta love that movie, it makes me crack up every time.
Over the next eight weeks I will be recording my results, goals, and accomplishments (Hopefully there will be many). Today was the first practice sort of thing where you could come or not, only four people showed up but I don’t blame the ones who didn’t; eight am is way too early during the summer. Anyways when I walked up with my mom’s ancient eighties bag my stomach turned in 15 different directions. I have NEVER played golf before, besides some putt-putt at sport way, and making a fool of myself wasn’t exactly on my agenda for today.
When we started putting for warm up, I actually did pretty well; the ball either went in or got close enough, haha. And I wasn’t two feet away from the hole either, and for a first day I think that’s something to be proud of. Then we moved to the driving range, uh oh. It’s actually really hard to make sure that every part of your swing is perfect and that you’re in line with your swing. Mr. W even said that 1 inch off your accuracy is about 10 yards off your ball, yeah something along those lines.
Using my nine iron, I thought I was doing well until I actually hit a ball far enough to see that it went way left. Same goes for my driver. Your left hand is on top of your right and I put too much control on my right but anyways. I felt very discouraged when I left the course but practice makes perfect right? We’ll just see how it goes. Oh yeah and good luck to everyone on their projects (:
