Just the way i wanted(:

Last post, i'm glad i'm finally getting this done. On Wednesday after golf practice i had an unexpected invite to play in the match against Lakeland. I said to Mr. Woodhall "are you sure you want me to" but it turns out picking me to play wasn't that bad after all. I shot a 64 for nine holes, which is not great, but for my first time playing in a match i think thats awesome! Out of the six girls playing for Kettering my score was the fourth best :) We played the front nine holes of our home course; Pontiac Country Club. During the beginning of the course i was doing the best, and as we progressed i was getting more and more frustrated. I'll start with a little play by play haha. #1: Par 5, i triple boogied (8) though that was the best out of my group. #2: Par 3, was a boogie for me but i had a really good chip onto the green. #3: Par 5, triple boogie again. #4: Par 4, this is where things started to go downhill, i got an 8 :/ #5: Par 4, a nine for me on this hole, i hate penilties :( #6: Par 4, not too bad on this one i triple boogied, better than four and five at least. #7 Par 4, i slipped up on this one and got a nine, way over. #8 Par 3, yay i boogied on this hole! and last but not least, #9: Par 4, for my last hole i got a seven. Over these past months i have seen such and improvement in my golf game. I am much more than satisfied with my progress. It's crazy to think that two months ago i couldn't even hit from the tee and now i pick up my driver and kill the ball! My project ended just the way i hoped it would, with me being able to play in a match before the first day of school, and playing well. This summer has shown me that anything is possible as long as you set you mind to it, even something as frustrating as golf. I finally have something to be proud of now and i so glad that i was able to take part in this experience. Now i hope i can keep this up for the season and next year as well :D

sevennnnn!

Summers almost over, what a bummer. Anyways, i got my new clubs over the weekend, and they are so much better than the old eightes clubs i was using before. The new ones are purple which is awesome. Brand name on them is Precise which isn't Calloway or anything but they will do. The set came with ten clubs, Driver, 3 Wood, 22 degree hybrid, 25 degree hybrid, pitching wedge six, seven, eight and nine irons, oh duh the putter too. The bag is really nice also, it stands up and has the backpack straps. The best thing about them is that i bought them myself. So when i first teed off i was really frustrated because these clubs were brand spanking new and i couldn't hit for crap. I seriously took like 10 shots for hole one, ugh! I progressed a bit Monday and got a better feel for them and by the end of the day i had a 100 yard shot. But today i realized how excurtiating golf is. I forgot to factor in the aiming portion, opps. Like i can hit far most of the time, but i need to work on how i postion my hips, shoulders and feet. Most of the time my cut goes off to the right, so i need to aim farther left, its confusing. My nine iron is defiantly the club i feel most comfortable with, my hybrids on the other hand are the ones im really so/so about. Since this is my second to last blog i need to get better by the end of the week, part of that is understanding the game of golf a lot better than i do now. I have been listening at all the practices but some stuff still didn't make sense. So i had one of my dads friends come over and explain in more detail. I GET IT NOW :D Our next match is Thursday, i don't think i be playing but if i am i hope i do good. Until the last post.

sixxxx

This past week at golf i really improved, i don't know what happened but something just came over me. It had been almost a week since i had gone to golf, and i was honestly suprised that the ball was actually going farther than 20 ft. The next day, also the first time i ever went on to the course, i became the most nervous person on the face of this earth. I stepped up to tee off and i didn't really know what to expect, im still in the stage where i never know how im going to hit the ball until i actually hit it. It's hard because i don't know what im doing right or wrong each time. My swing feels the same but i will figure it out eventually.
Basically im content with where my golf game has gone, theres defiantly still a lot of room for improvement but that usually can be said for anything. Once i can hit the ball far i can focus on aiming and making my putting better. It sucks now that i can hit the ball my putting has gone down the gutter. I have have been trying to pratice but its kinda hard to practice golf. On the bright side i am getting a new pair of clubs, and ditching those old eightes ones. They are purple and have 2 hybrids which allow for a smoother swing with less difficultay. It sucks that i have to pay for them but they are so worth it.
And for the community service, last Wednesday i helped at registration, and this week coming up i am gonna be helping the new incoming 6th grade band students who are just now using their instruments for the first time. That should be fun, until next time.

fiveee

I haven't gone to golf practice lately which is a bad thing but i did go putt putt golfing with Alex today. At the beginning of the summer, before i started playing golf, me and a couple of friends went to sport way so i could have some kind of idea of how much i would need to improve over the summer. And i am really surprised at how drastically i have changed since then. There are eighteen holes each with a par 2. First time i went i got a 48 which is pretty good for a first timer. Today though i got a 35, which means i got a hole in one :) Each hole has a different challenge, either a hill, a bump, or a huge random piece of wood. That made the course more intimidating but then i realized its just putting. I kicked Alex's butt! He got a 48, my score from last time. The hardest hole was number eight i think lol, anyways the hill drops off 90 degrees so you can't see where the ball is going. I was sure that i would take at least 3 putts to make this hole but again i surprised myself, this hole was my hole in one! Making par on each of the holes was such an amazing feeling, and this week I'm not being negative about golf, yay! And now that the practices have really started I'm going to get better i can feel it. And my volunteering is going good too. I have helped two of my neighbors with things they really needed. The woman next door is low and cash and a new mom so I've been babysitting for her when she goes to work, and I'm not charging. Also the man across the street appreciates me getting his mail since he is sick and its hard for him to get out of the house. Well that's all folks, :D

numberfour.

Number four, half way done with blogging, summers almost over :( At our last practice Mr. Woodhull wasn’t there but I think his absence improved my game, haha. We played a two putt game on the little practice course thing, and I did much better than I thought I would. I was about 25 feet away from the white flag, hoping to get it kind of close, but then I hit it right on! The rest of that practice went the same as usual, really good job at putting then a wow you need to practice on your swing. So yesterday when my dad went golfing with a few of his friends I decided to tag along not only to watch but to get help from someone whose probably been playing a majority of their life. How can someone take their driver and hit it the ball 250 yards with no trouble at all? If you have an answer let me know, because I have been trying to figure it out for awhile. Anyways as we walked the 18 holes at the Pontiac golf course I watched many people and how they swung. And I finally figured out what I need to do, relax. I get so stressed and think I need everything to be perfect when there is no one who is 100% at anything. Oh, and I decided I am going to add a second thing to my summer project. I am going to do some community service at least once a week in my neighborhood and community. Once I got farther into AVM I realized that even though our projects don’t have to benefit others along with ourselves I want to. First priority is helping the old man across the street; I’m going to mow his lawn and get his mail. Hopefully I can find other volunteer opportunities also. My next golf practice isn’t til the 12th but I’ll try to keep my game on next week.

#3

After a hectic week at band camp, I’m back with a lot to write about. Yes band camp, don’t make fun of me haha. The week before I left I only went to golf practice once because I was sick, but when I went on Thursday there was a small improvement. Now I don’t totally suck, I just suck a little. I am able to hit the ball when it’s on the grass. And my putting is still rather good, hitting of the tee on the other hand, still isn’t the greatest. I tend to hit the grass behind the ball and leave big holes. So I decided that while I was away at camp I would bring some of my golf stuff to practice even though I was away. During the second day of camp (Monday) I took my ball, my tee & my driver and headed to the practice field. We march there and the camp is in the middle of nowhere so I was able to hit as far as I could. But with my luck, after 30 minutes of “hitting” the ball I still hadn’t improved too much. Wednesday I was feeling in a golfing mood, turns out I was. After a 10 minute warm-up I somehow magically hit the ball in the woods. For I second I thought I was hallucinating, but when I did it twice, three, four times in a row I was amazed! Walking away I was really happy :) Friday though everything changed again. It was really sad at camp because all of my friends are leaving in a year and honestly I was too upset to even focus on stupid golf. When I went back to practice I lost it I was barely able to hit it from the grass. Basically I got better then lost it all over again. I better be able to find out what I was doing, so that I can maybe be good by the end of summer?

Week two, getting worse.

Okay last week I didn’t have the time to blog, but let’s just say there wasn’t much to miss.
Ever since the first week I feel like I’m gradually getting worse, I’m over thinking everything I do.
It’s so frustrating!
The first week I did well so I expected to get the same results, wrong.
When I see someone teeing off absolutely perfect I try to match them, but everyone has their own swing and I can’t seem to find mine. Playing softball since fifth grade isn’t helping much either. I’m applying things from softball to golf and it’s making my swing total crap. Yeah the other people I see playing have probably been playing a majority of their life, but I didn’t think it would be this complicated. Because the past week was an off week for the actual practices, my dad and I went to the golf range. He helped me point out the really big things that are pretty easy to fix. First of all, don’t look anywhere besides the ball until you finish. Second it’s all in the shoulders and hips, I can’t believe how many times I have used my wrists, there’s that softball coming through.
This summer is going by so quickly and I hope I can become somewhat good before it’s over. Golf is hard, honestly one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Today I heard something funny from one of my team mates though, this game isn’t fun it sucks, until you hit the ball the exact way you want, right where you want it. This is 100% true. I just want to walk off the field when I mess up and see my friends doing much better, but I won’t. Next week I have to do better, and I will because that’s the only way to survive this game, positive attitude!

Day One

For my summer project I thought about a lot of different choices, especially when I have been seeing tons of great ideas from everyone else. But I finally decided that my project will be for me to learn how to play golf and hopefully get good at it. During school this year I didn’t’ partake in any sports, (besides marching band which does not count) and my life was basically just band and my boyfriend, lame. So I defiantly needed something else to do. And when my friend Audrey told me about how great playing golf was I thought to myself “why not?!”

I even watched Happy Gilmore this weekend to get me in a golf mood, haha. You gotta love that movie, it makes me crack up every time.

Over the next eight weeks I will be recording my results, goals, and accomplishments (Hopefully there will be many). Today was the first practice sort of thing where you could come or not, only four people showed up but I don’t blame the ones who didn’t; eight am is way too early during the summer. Anyways when I walked up with my mom’s ancient eighties bag my stomach turned in 15 different directions. I have NEVER played golf before, besides some putt-putt at sport way, and making a fool of myself wasn’t exactly on my agenda for today.

When we started putting for warm up, I actually did pretty well; the ball either went in or got close enough, haha. And I wasn’t two feet away from the hole either, and for a first day I think that’s something to be proud of. Then we moved to the driving range, uh oh. It’s actually really hard to make sure that every part of your swing is perfect and that you’re in line with your swing. Mr. W even said that 1 inch off your accuracy is about 10 yards off your ball, yeah something along those lines.

Using my nine iron, I thought I was doing well until I actually hit a ball far enough to see that it went way left. Same goes for my driver. Your left hand is on top of your right and I put too much control on my right but anyways. I felt very discouraged when I left the course but practice makes perfect right? We’ll just see how it goes. Oh yeah and good luck to everyone on their projects (:
